FRAPS etc.: venting
First of all, I would really like to know why anyone would mention the Alt-Zoom camera when there is no need to use it when I use FRAPS.
2-I am still looking for a place where a step by step tutorial can get me through from the filming to the publishing, and -obviously- via the most essential post-editing part.
3-Now that I know how to set up the Alt-Zoom camera, I know that I will never use it again since FRAPS.
4-Now that I have FRAPS, wrote my audio script, created a gesture scenario timed to my voice input, figured out how to record my voice inworld (hint hint: the headset + a shortkey trigger for locking the voice open. FRAPS records what it hears)…and have reached the next frustration: a simple upload.
5-Jumpcut is acclaimed to be the almighty solution of post-production editing and publishing. That would be groovy is there were no problem uploading the vid. VirtualDub is supposed to compress the files. so I download VirtualDub (free thank goodness), but when I run the clip through VirtalDub, the file comes out bigger than it came in. Good one. At this typing instant, I am uploading my non-compressed clip onto Jumpcut. It’s 15minutes and 35% done.
6-Blip.tv uploaded my clip quite fast. But I can’t edit the movie. So the raw clip is there, clearly needing some trimming. Plus, my plan was to record several short clips and put them together into a seamless movie THANKS to JumpCut’s promises of great and easy editing! 11:03pm39% done.
I wonder. Patience might be the only problem here. Nothing algorithmic at all!
Dare I? I dare: 11:07pm 50% done
11:22pm: no more count down but Jumpcut keeps blabbing away. So I have not clue if this thing is actually still working.
Anyway, want to hear something really funny? or frustrating depending on the point of view…..I just re-read FRAPS’ support text and they mentioned Microsoft Movie Maker. I assumed that I did not have it because I did not ask for it. That’s assumption #2: Microsoft Movie Maker does not come standard. Oh Really!? Ah! well, it’s 11:24pm and I am here to say that yes, i do have MMM on my laptop. I could pull on my hair…..if I were not afraid of a migraine. So, now I am dumping Jumpcut and trying to edit my clips in MMM and upload the finish product on blip.tv.
more update coming soon…..

Finally!!! The answers: click on FRAPS to capture the filming in SL. Then open Microsoft Movie Maker, import a video (browse and find my FRAPS folder), open last SL segment / or open project in MMM to continue to edit it. Edit. Add more segment, figure out the transitions, etc. Save as. Close MMM. Log on Blip.TV. Upload. Find movie to upload (watch for the correct type of file. The browse box might open the MMM movie folder with all the saved documents: the files used to edit in MMM, and the files used to upload). Super super quick upload.
